What is the Performance Marketing Association?

Affiliate marketing is a key channel for the vast majority of online advertisers, both retailers and lead buyers. The Performance Marketing Association, now entering its second year as a registered non-profit, is the only major industry association positioned to represent the myriad players in the performance marketing space, including publishers, agencies, advertisers, networks, and vendors.

And this adds up to a lot of value in our space. According to Forrester research, US affiliate marketing spend is projected to grow by 110 percent over the five year span from $1.9B in 2009 to $4B in 2014. As Chad Wehrmaker mentioned on a recent video, eBay Partner Network’s own top 1,000 affiliates at eBay each earn on average $100,000 per year.

Performance marketing has established itself as a desirable way to do business and attracted more and more powerful players. We see much innovation on the publisher side with companies like Collectors Weekly, VigLink and SkimLinks, as well as on the advertiser side. Here ePN’s own Quality Click Pricing is a good example of forward-thinking change.

Our future looks bright but will be even brighter if we work together to create and update standards, educate on best practices, and protect against fraud. Although not its reason for being, the PMA has led the fight against tax nexus legislation, which badly harms the performance marketing space without providing additional revenue for state governments. (As an aside, the PMA is not opposed to sales tax online but is instead opposed to unfair discrimination against our form of advertising.)

Announcing Custom Banner Improvements

Hello,

In our constant pursuit of making your life as a publisher easier, we are pleased to announce a change to the way Custom Banner handles keyword inputs. The change makes it possible to use a variety of operators to define your keyword input in greater detail, bringing it more into line with keyword searching functionality on the eBay site.

You can enter these operators and queries directly into the search box in the Custom Banner interface in eBay Partner Network, in line with the way regular keywords are input today:

If you decide to place your keyword query directly into the Custom Banner code instead of the interface, please make sure you encode it first. We recommend you to do this by using the tool located at http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_urlencode.asp.

Please note that the search is performed in the item title only, not in the description of items.

One last piece of advice: always start your keyword query as simply as possible, using either a single keyword or spaces between multiple keywords, and look at the results before applying further operators. eBay search is quite sophisticated and sometimes filters or expands the results automatically to deliver an optimal user experience.

No Payment Threshold for November 2010 Payment

Hello Partners,

As we mentioned in our blog post from last year, we will be removing the minimum threshold again for this year’s November payment disbursement.

The payment disbursement from Wednesday, November 24, 2010 will have no minimum threshold. This means that as long as your eBay Partner Network account is in good standing, you will receive your outstanding balance paid in full, even if your balance due is less than 25 (USD, CAD, EUR, GBP or AUD).

Also, due to the Thanksgiving Holiday in the United States we will be paying one day earlier, on November 24th, and not as usual on the 25th of the month.

For the November 2011 disbursement we will remove the payment threshold again, allowing us to better serve you.

Note that as always, eBay Partner Network reserves the right to suspend payment temporarily if a Partner is placed under investigation for violation of our Code of Conduct or our Advertiser Terms and Conditions. In such a case, the Partner will be contacted.

Chatting with eBay Partner Network – Episode 10

On this week’s episode of “Chatting with eBay Partner Network,” JJ McCarthy interviews Jenna Naughton, Sr. Manager, Consumer Marketing at eBay, about what eBay is doing to reach buyers for the Holidays. We filmed this episode a few weeks ago, and have a few updates to the content since then. For example, Jenna tells us that some of the other hot products for Holiday this year include push bikes (for kids), 3D TV accessories, Paper Jamz, Squinkies and Zoobles, Sing-a-ma-jigs, Dance Star Mickey, Pillow Pets Bee and Dog and N-Strike Stampede ECS Blaster.

We also wanted to point out that while Jenna mentions December 20th as the cut-off for most sellers to get their gifts to buyers before Christmas, some sellers do offer overnight shipping, and buyers can
still find last minute gifts after this time.

The holidays are one of the busiest times of the year for buying on eBay, with much of the activity surging from Black Friday/Cyber Monday through the first two weeks in December. Earn a bonus of up to 50% on your European campaigns in November and December 2010

eBay Partner Network is offering you the chance to earn even more from your European campaigns during this year’s holiday shopping season with a Holiday promotion in November and December 2010.

The promotion includes all European Programs (United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Ireland and The Netherlands). This promotion is available for all publishers on Quality Click Pricing who generated earnings in August 2010.

How does the Promotion work?

If you increase your earnings during the months of the promotion by at least 20% compared to your earnings in August 2010, you will be eligible for a bonus on your total earnings for that month. These bonuses will be tiered as follows:

Earnings Increase compared to August 2010

20% – 34.99%  -  Earn a 10% bonus

35 – 49.99%  -  Earn a 30% bonus

Greater than 50%  -  Earn a 50% bonus

Bonuses will be calculated per Program and Account, as per the example below:

If your December earnings are then only 10% higher than your August earnings, you would not receive a bonus for December.
